Our preferred manufacturer for Neutral Grounding Transformers, Niagara Transformer Corp., has extensive experience in the design and manufacture of specialty grounding auto transformers. These types of transformers provide a neutral point for grounding purposes. Applications may call for a single grounding source, multiple generators on a common bus, or a single generator where fault limitation is desired.

Windings in auto transformers consist of six equal parts, each designed for 1/3 line-to-line voltage. If there is a ground fault on any line, the ground current flows equally through the three legs of an auto transformer, and the interconnection offers minimum impedance to the single-phase fault current.

To ensure auto transformers are capable of withstanding continuous exposure to the dynamic forces of short circuit currents, Niagara Transformer Corp. employs an epoxy-dip to liquid-filled auto transformers and epoxy end-cap inserts on dry-type auto transformers.
